15 minute lesson on sexual harassment and respecting girls

We are proud to have partnered with the team from Kent & Medway Violence Reduction Unit to help bring this important issue to light.

Sexual harassment is something many girls and women will unfortunately experience. We hope by highlighting the issue and the need for respect for girls we can help prevent future sexual harassment.

In this lesson we cover:

  • Key terms for sexual harassment
  • Real testimonials from girls and women who have experienced sexual harassment
  • Being an active bystander
  • Discussion points and activities for your class.

This lesson is packed full of ideas for exploring issues around sexual harassment with valuable videos provided by Kent & Medway VRU as part of their Don’t Disrespect campaign.

Research conducted in schools in Kent and Medway indicates that boys often engage in these behaviours to impress their friends, show off, or mistakenly believing it will win a girl’s affection. In reality, it has the opposite effect.

Don’t Disrespect addresses the national issue of violence against women and girls, focusing on the problem of street harassment directed at girls and young women. It encourages boys and men to take a stand against abuse and to speak up when they witness it.
