Many young people are uncertain about their future paths, and school staff often feel the pressure of supporting them without enough time, space or up-to-date insight. At the same time, young people also show a clear desire for guidance that reflects the real world, beyond traditional routes and beyond assumptions adults often make.
This webinar brings Life Lessons and The Student Room together to explore what young people are actually saying about their futures, and how adults can better support them. It focuses on widening aspirations, rethinking careers education and grounding our work in genuine youth voice.
Across the hour, we’ll explore
- Life Lessons’ PSHE unit Aspirations & Money – a practical, ready-to-teach set of lessons that help students think about their future choices, what matters to them, their financial lives, and how to make decisions with confidence. It gives teachers a structured way to open conversations about motivation, opportunities, and the realities of adult life.
- The Student Room’s app, community and insight – unique, direct insight, both quantitative data and qualitative student voice, on what young people are genuinely discussing and feeling about their future careers and aspirations on the site’s forums.
The webinar centres on four themes that influence how young people think about their futures: the challenges they face, the relationships and attitudes around them, their self-belief and expectations, and the resilience they’re building as they move through key transitions.
We’ll also explore the gap between how adults think the future looks for young people and how young people see it themselves, and how we can start bridging that.
The aim is to give teachers something that saves time while strengthening impact: ready-made resources, clearer insight and a supportive framework for conversations that often get squeezed out of the timetable.
