We are excited to announce that NSPCC have partnered with Life Lessons to develop a Whole-School Approach Framework to Relationships and Sex Education (RSE).
The Whole-School Approach framework encourages leaders to embed and prioritise healthy relationships and effective RSE throughout the school, not just in the classroom.
The suite of resources includes a framework setting out eight components to a Whole-School Approach, benchmarks, examples and a snapshot tool.
The new materials form part of the national children’s charity education service, Talk Relationships, which supports secondary schools to confidently deliver inclusive, impactful sex and relationships education.
Talk Relationships aims to help educators enhance their skills and confidence in delivering this topic as well as creating a safe learning environment. This supports 4.6 million young people in secondary education to experience healthy, happy relationships.
Life Lessons was selected as a partner for NSPCC due to our innovative video-based approach that puts young people and their voices at the centre of RSHE and our shared focus on supporting schools across the UK to adopt a whole school approach.
Talk Relationships was developed and launched in 2022, with the ambition of providing e-learning modules and lesson plans to secondary education teachers to support them to teach RSE. The service has since grown, incorporating SEND and Welsh language lesson plans. Future plans include tools and resources for schools to bring pupil voices to the forefront of RSE and engage them in reviewing key policies.
Teachers can receive support at any time, from the NSPCC’s dedicated RSE Helpline. This offers help and advice on sex and relationships education at 0800 389 5347.
Maria Neophytou, Director of Strategy and Knowledge at the NSPCC said: “We’re delighted to be launching these new Talk Relationships resources alongside Life Lessons.
“It’s crucial that learning about sex and relationships extends beyond the classroom and that every member of the school community is part of promoting healthy relationships in a safe, inclusive school environment. Providing a free set of insightful resources helps to support schools in bringing this approach to life.”
Jamie O’Connell, Co-Founder of Life Lessons, said: “We are thrilled to announce that Life Lessons and the NSPCC are partnering to support the direct work of UK school leaders and their teams.
“This framework, with future accompanying resources, brings together evidence and innovation to create efficiencies for schools, build staff confidence and will help with parental transparency and involvement. Working together we can help more children and young people to grow up safe and healthy.”
