Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future

A KS3 lesson for Women’s History Month 2026

Every March, Women’s History Month gives us the opportunity to reflect on progress towards gender equality, celebrate inspiring figures, and consider how we can all be part of positive change.

This free KS3 lesson explores this year’s theme — Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future — helping students understand the disproportionate impact of climate change on women and girls around the world, and the activists leading the fight for a fairer, greener future.

Through real-world case studies and discussion, students will learn about the work of Wangari Maathai, Berta Cáceres and Greta Thunberg, and explore how activism drives meaningful change. The lesson encourages students to reflect on their own role in protecting the environment and standing up for what they believe in.

This lesson supports SMSC development and British values, with a focus on mutual respect and democracy. It is part of Life Lessons’ wider PSHE and RSHE curriculum and is free to download for all educators.
